Byron Katie teaches ground breaking "Work",
on how to challenge and transcend our stressful thoughts!
Byron Katie is the author of Loving What Is, and the creator of a fantastic healing process she calls "The Work". Loving What Is is a transformational book that anyone, at any age, can benefit from. It is a practical hands on read that is easy to understand if you are willing to take a closer look at yourself. Her book includes written transcripts of her facilitating others to challenge and transcend their stressful thoughts through this self discovery process.
Byron Katie says; "Thoughts simply float around until we decide to attach ourselves to them". Our anxiety, fear, and discontentment comes when we attach ourselves to stressful thoughts. Stressful or un-true thoughts are a byproduct of deceptions created by the ego along with "unhealthy" social conditioning and outside influences.
Ultimately, stressful thoughts are not real.
The ego wants us to believe our stressful thoughts in order to convince us that the story those thoughts are telling us are true. When we no longer believe fallacious thoughts and stories, the ego will lose it's power to control us or influence our thinking. As long as the ego controls our lives, we will continue to live in pain, misery, isolation, and fear.
"The Work" is a series of questions and what she calls a turn around, that simply help you to see what's really true for you. The beauty of "The Work" lies in its simplicity. It's straight forward, and cuts directly to any illusions you are holding. If someone is having difficulty answering the questions genuinely, you might hear her say, "Do you really want to know the truth?". That question can bring the person back into their desire to know what's really true for them. A sincere desire to end your suffering, is all that's required to do "The Work" successfully as you begin your awakening journey and increase your level of consciousness.
Byron Katie says a thought comes up, and you are either enlightened to it or not. In other words, you either attach yourself to it or not. It's helpful to understand that thoughts aren't personal until we attach ourselves to them. Once we attach ourselves to stressful thoughts, the ego has done its job by keeping us distracting from reality. This illusional state of being is the cause of all our frustration and confusion.
We tend to fear what we don't understand.
The purpose of living unconsciously is to experience "what we are not" until it is time for us to become conscious of reality and begin the process of transcending the ego. Fortunately, God is the One in control of our lives, and He will awaken us to reality when we are ready to do so.
Byron Katie doesn't claim to be enlightened because she say's the idea of enlightenment is just another concept. However, she is clearly free from the confines of the ego and therefore fits the criteria for being one of only a few beings alive on our planet today, who are enlightened. She is an amazing woman who examples what "True Love" really looks like. Love always tells the truth.
Beneath our toxic thinking, we are all enlightened beings.
Another great book she has written is, "I Need Your Love-Is That True?" which explores how to stop seeking love, approval, and appreciation, and start finding them instead.
As with many authors today, her books are available on compact disc. I find these recordings very inspiring! I've really come to understand so much by listening. Some of the titles I have are; "Your Inner Awakening", "1000 Names For Joy", along with many others.
We highly recommend all of the work by Byron Katie. To learn more,

"If I had a prayer, it would be: God spare me from the desire for love, approval, or appreciation. Amen."
"Forgiveness is discovering that what you thought happened didn't - that there was never anything to forgive. What seemed terrible changes once you've questioned it. There is nothing terrible except your unquestioned thoughts about what you see."
"I am a lover of what is, not because I'm a spiritual person but because it hurts when I argue with reality. No thinking in the world can change it. What is is."
